Covid-19 compliant training
Due to the Covid-19 crisis, safety measures have been implemented by the CDC and other governing bodies, until an unknown future date. This includes 1 to 1 ratio practice with gloves, hand sanitizer and masks, which means no face to face practice with a training partner in close proximity (as is common). No mouth to mouth practice (if typically required for the specific course). Students are spaced out at a minimum of 6 feet from other students. Zoom (distance learning) training may be offered, depending on course type and requirements.
Zoom-based training
Some courses can be provided through the Zoom training option. Courses that do not require written test compliance. The equipment that is needed for the training (ie: Manikins, Epi-Pen trainers) are dropped off in advance to the student. The training is provided with the instructor supervising and offering encouragement and correction over the Zoom portal. This can be offered for individuals, we well as groups. Gary and Linnette Fian are a bilingual husband and wife team who are certified occupational safety specialists (COSS). They have a combined 50 years of safety and training experience. The Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers Course is designed for healthcare professionals (Medical and Dental). Instruction is provided in use of breathing devices, CPR for the adult, child and infant, AED use, Rescue breathing, relief of choking. Course includes written assessment test.
**Note: In 2015 the AHA removed the “renewal” version of this course. It is now one standard course for all providers, whether an initial course or a renewal.

The Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) course is designed for healthcare providers who either direct, or participate in, the resuscitation of a patient, whether in or out of hospital. ACLS is based on simulated clinical scenarios that encourage active, hands-on participation through learning stations. Students will practice essential skills individually, as part of a team, and as a team leader.
Realistic simulations reinforce key concepts: proficiency in BLS care; recognizing and initiating early management of peri-arrest conditions; managing cardiac arrest; identifying and treating ischemic chest pain and acute coronary syndromes; recognizing other life-threatening clinical situations (such as stroke) and providing initial care; ACLS algorithms; drug administration; and effective resuscitation team dynamics.
Although Adult CPR and use of an AED is reviewed and skills performed, NO BLS certification card will be provided at the close of class. Only adult BLS skills are practiced, not pediatric skills. BLS certification can be provided after completion of ACLS, if needed.

The goal of the PALS Provider Course is to teach students how to recognize infants and children who may be at risk for many life threatening scenarios. The course will provide students with strategies for preventing cardiopulmonary arrest in infants and children. It will teach students how to perform the cognitive and psychomotor skills for resuscitating and stabilizing infants and children in respiratory failure, shock, or cardiopulmonary arrest. Skills in bag-mask ventilation, management of airway, defibrillation and cardioversion, CPR and use of AEDs for children and infants, and rhythm management are emphasized. Working as part of a team has a major focus.
NO BLS card is provided at the end of this course. You will only be practicing pediatric skills, not adult skills. BLS certification can be added once PALS has been completed.
Intended Audience: Licensed medical and dental providers who provide acute care and support to pediatric patients, or whose licensing agency requires staff to keep PALS maintained.

These include the systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation, and team dynamics. Using eSimulation technology, students can assess and treat patients in virtual healthcare settings. In this environment, students also apply their knowledge to real-time decision-making and skills development. Debriefings and coaching are provided immediately after each simulation to facilitate learning. Written exam provided. This blended learning option gives a completion certificate, which is given to an ACLS instructor at your skills appointment. This proves that you have completed the didactic side of the course. The objective of the Mock Drill is to review the emergency preparedness plan of the organization and evaluate standard operating procedure, so that, during an actual emergency, staff will follow predetermined steps to preserve life and property.
The Mock Drill is designed individually for the business/staff environment. Emergency equipment/protocols are reviewed. Staff requirements and assignments are made, such as who starts CPR, who calls 911 and gets a first aid kit, and who searches the building, if evacuation is necessary. Where is the first aid kit located, and should it be moved to a more central location? Is there an AED on site? Where is the best/safest off-site location for evacuees to wait/regroup?
Live scenarios involving all staff are essential to a successful Mock Drill.

Many health care facilities -including hospitals and clinics- routinely conduct mock codes, usually quarterly. Depending on the time of day, location of the patient, and other variables, the code team's response time could vary, wasting critical minutes. In the case of a clinic, there is no emergency response team--only the staff on site, and 911. The sooner BLS and first aid is initiated, the better the patient's chance of survival.
Running mock codes has many advantages that improve patient care, including:
•keeping staff members' resuscitation skills sharp, in a non-threatening learning environment
•ensuring that equipment (and medication) is available, and that staff members know where to find, and how to use.
•clarifying the roles of team members and staff during an emergency.
•establishing a “traffic control” plan to maintain order, clearing an area when extra staff and bystanders do not belong.
The Mock Code Drill is individually designed for the department or clinic based on company protocols, and available equipment.

A respirator fit test determines if a tight-fitting respirator can be worn without having any leaks. It should take place after an employee has been medically cleared to wear a respirator and before the employee actually wears it on the job. A respirator fit test is required for all tight-fitting respirators. An employee must complete the fit test using a respirator that’s the same make, model, and size of one he/she will wear on the job while also wearing any other required equipment (e.g., glasses).
There are two types of respirator fit tests as required by OSHA: qualitative and quantitative.
Qualitative Fit Testing (QLFT)*
• More common method
• Normally used for half-mask respirators
• Relies on the user’s senses
Quantitative Fit Testing (QNFT)
• Uses a machine to numerically measure leakage
into the facepiece
• Required for certain tight-fitting respirators, that
must form a tight seal to work properly

Driving is the #1 killer of high school students!
South Carolina reduced their teen driving death rate by 47% over a seven-year period between 2006 and 2013, by utilizing the Alive at 25 Program.
HOW DID THEY DO IT?
The National Safety Council worked with high schools and law enforcement to provide the Alive at 25 course to high school students. Students were told that if they wanted the privilege to park on the school campus, that they would have to take the four hour Alive at 25 course on their own time, and pay for it.
The cost of the program was reduced, and scholarships were made available. There was no cost to the schools.
Alive at 25 is not Drivers Ed.

The increasing instances of active shooter event taking place is a sad reality of the world we live in today. The motivations driving people to commit such acts are varied and often unpredictable. If you ever find yourself in an active shooter scenario, remember, You Can Make It! Our training module is based upon the FBI’s Run, Hide, Fight protocol and has been developed in conjunction with retired law enforcement officers. According to the United States Department of Labor, every 12 minutes someone dies in a motor vehicle crash, every 10 seconds an injury occurs, and every 5 seconds a crash occurs. Many of these incidents occur during the workday or during the commute to and from work. Employers bear the cost for injuries that occur both on and off the job.

Driving is the #1 killer of high school students!
South Carolina reduced their teen driving death rate by 47% over a seven-year period between 2006 and 2013, by utilizing the Alive at 25 Program.
HOW DID THEY DO IT?
The National Safety Council worked with high schools and law enforcement to provide the Alive at 25 course to high school students. Students were told that if they wanted the privilege to park on the school campus, that they would have to take the four hour Alive at 25 course on their own time, and pay for it.
The cost of the program was reduced, and scholarships were made available. There was no cost to the schools.
Alive at 25 is not Drivers Ed.

A respirator fit test determines if a tight-fitting respirator can be worn without having any leaks. It should take place after an employee has been medically cleared to wear a respirator and before the employee actually wears it on the job. A respirator fit test is required for all tight-fitting respirators. An employee must complete the fit test using a respirator that’s the same make, model, and size of one he/she will wear on the job while also wearing any other required equipment (e.g., glasses).
There are two types of respirator fit tests as required by OSHA: qualitative and quantitative.
Qualitative Fit Testing (QLFT)*
• More common method
• Normally used for half-mask respirators
• Relies on the user’s senses
Quantitative Fit Testing (QNFT)
• Uses a machine to numerically measure leakage
into the facepiece

The increasing instances of active shooter event taking place is a sad reality of the world we live in today. The motivations driving people to commit such acts are varied and often unpredictable. If you ever find yourself in an active shooter scenario, remember, You Can Make It! The Wind and Solar Energy industry faces unique challenges in the eyes of safety and emergency preparedness. Traditional CPR and First aid training courses are too cookie-cutter to match the risks they routinely face. This unique course takes all of the unusual aspects of their jobs (remote locations, confined spaces, lack of cell service, long response times…) and provides a fresh perspective. Training is designed specifically for their industry. Most wind & solar staff have years of safety experience. This course takes the knowledge they already have, and expands on it. Recommendations for a successful outcome based on YEARS and years of experience. Training is provided by an ER nurse who is tower rescue trained. On site equipment is used for emergency drills, extrication practice on ground and up-tower if desired. Staff operated their own equipment, with certified equipment trainer monitoring. The goal of the PALS Provider Course is to teach students how to recognize infants and children who may be at risk for many life threatening scenarios. The course will provide students with strategies for preventing cardiopulmonary arrest in infants and children. It will teach students how to perform the cognitive and psychomotor skills for resuscitating and stabilizing infants and children in respiratory failure, shock, or cardiopulmonary arrest. The objective of the Mock Drill is to review the emergency preparedness plan of the organization and evaluate standard operating procedure, so that, during an actual emergency, staff will follow predetermined steps to preserve life and property.
The Mock Drill is designed individually for the business/staff environment. Emergency equipment/protocols are reviewed. Staff requirements and assignments are made, such as who starts CPR, who calls 911 and gets a first aid kit, and who searches the building, if evacuation is necessary. Where is the first aid kit located, and should it be moved to a more central location? Is there an AED on site? Where is the best/safest off-site location for evacuees to wait/regroup?
Live scenarios involving all staff are essential to a successful Mock Drill.

Many health care facilities -including hospitals and clinics- routinely conduct mock codes, usually quarterly. Depending on the time of day, location of the patient, and other variables, the code team's response time could vary, wasting critical minutes. In the case of a clinic, there is no emergency response team--only the staff on site, and 911. The sooner BLS and first aid is initiated, the better the patient's chance of survival.
Running mock codes has many advantages that improve patient care, including:
•keeping staff members' resuscitation skills sharp, in a non-threatening learning environment

The objective of the Mock Drill is to review the emergency preparedness plan of the organization and evaluate standard operating procedure, so that, during an actual emergency, staff will follow predetermined steps to preserve life and property.
The Mock Drill is designed individually for the business/staff environment. Emergency equipment/protocols are reviewed. Staff requirements and assignments are made, such as who starts CPR, who calls 911 and gets a first aid kit, and who searches the building, if evacuation is necessary. Where is the first aid kit located, and should it be moved to a more central location? Is there an AED on site? Where is the best/safest off-site location for evacuees to wait/regroup?
Live scenarios involving all staff are essential to a successful Mock Drill.

The increasing instances of active shooter event taking place is a sad reality of the world we live in today. The motivations driving people to commit such acts are varied and often unpredictable. If you ever find yourself in an active shooter scenario, remember, You Can Make It! Our training module is based upon the FBI’s Run, Hide, Fight protocol and has been developed in conjunction with retired law enforcement officers. It is designed to provide the participants with information that may save their lives in the event of an active shooter event. HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAMS, keeping kids safe!
Driving is the #1 killer of high school students!
South Carolina reduced their teen driving death rate by 47% over a seven-year period between 2006 and 2013, by utilizing the Alive at 25 Program.
HOW DID THEY DO IT?
The National Safety Council worked with high schools and law enforcement to provide the Alive at 25 course to high school students. Students were told that if they wanted the privilege to park on the school campus, that they would have to take the four hour Alive at 25 course on their own time, and pay for it.
The cost of the program was reduced, and scholarships were made available. There was no cost to the schools.
Alive at 25 is not Drivers Ed.

A respirator fit test determines if a tight-fitting respirator can be worn without having any leaks. It should take place after an employee has been medically cleared to wear a respirator and before the employee actually wears it on the job. A respirator fit test is required for all tight-fitting respirators. An employee must complete the fit test using a respirator that’s the same make, model, and size of one he/she will wear on the job while also wearing any other required equipment (e.g., glasses).
There are two types of respirator fit tests as required by OSHA: qualitative and quantitative.
Qualitative Fit Testing (QLFT)*
• More common method
• Normally used for half-mask respirators
• Relies on the user’s senses
Quantitative Fit Testing (QNFT)
• Uses a machine to numerically measure leakage into the facepiece
• Required for certain tight-fitting respirators, that must form a tight seal to work properly
Respirator Fit Testing is required by OSHA (29CFR1910.134) for all tight-fitting respirators, and both supplied-air and air-purifying respirators. They require fit testing prior to initial use, if there are changes to the brand/size of mask or any physical changes to the person’s face or neck that may affect the fit. Fit testing must be repeated annually.

The Wind and Solar Energy industry faces unique challenges in the eyes of safety and emergency preparedness. Traditional CPR and First aid training courses are too cookie-cutter to match the risks they routinely face. This unique course takes all of the unusual aspects of their jobs (remote locations, confined spaces, lack of cell service, long response times…) and provides a fresh perspective. Training is designed specifically for their industry. Most wind & solar staff have years of safety experience. This course takes the knowledge they already have, and expands on it. Recommendations for a successful outcome based on YEARS and years of experience. Training is provided by an ER nurse who is tower rescue trained. On site equipment is used for emergency drills, extrication practice on ground and up-tower if desired. Staff operated their own equipment, with certified equipment trainer monitoring. Management works with instructor to plan, and include/exclude topics in advance. CPR, AED and Advanced first aid training are provided. Two year certification cards are provided. Course is typically provided yearly, so that staff can practice or routine timeframe.

Good Samaritan Laws
When an emergency happens, a Good Samaritan is a person who voluntarily tries to help, without expectation or compensation. Good Samaritan Laws are intended to protect those who offer assistance of any type from being held liable if their actions end up causing unintended harm, or the outcome is poor.
Without laws to protect people trying to help when a sudden emergency occurs, many would walk away, for fear of being sued (or worse). In many emergencies, a delay can mean the difference between life and death. Good Samaritan Laws are intended to encourage people to help each other in emergency situations, before EMS arrives, but also to act responsibly whenever doing so.

In an effort to save lives, states have implemented laws to make it easier for first responders and the general public to obtain naloxone. Additionally, to encourage people to assist an individual who is or may be suffering an overdose, the majority of states also enacted laws which protect laypeople who administer naloxone, in good faith, in an emergency from civil and/or criminal liability 1. As of August 2020, all 50 states and the District of Columbia have some form of a naloxone access law. The laws vary significantly by state. The Legislative Analysis and Public Policy Association (LAPPA) has undertaken an extensive research project to determine the current status of naloxone access laws throughout the United States, including the District of Columbia and all U.S. territories.
